Thinking about it, Legends: Z-A taking place in modern times, in the present day, but after the events of XY as opposed to Legends: Arceus taking place in the past actually works... in an unusual way, even though its a Legends game, the word legend referring to that which happened in the past.

Because, despite everything, what the story of Z-A really is when you think about it is a closure, a conclusion, to a legend that persisted over multiple millennia, closing the book on that legend. Its the end of the story of AZ, the man who lived for well over 3,000 years.
